The use of interlocking paver block is a unique method for designing attractive pavements. Interlock block paving is the ideal option for your patio, driveway, and pathway. However, before installing the pavers, you should be aware of the benefits and drawbacks of interlocking paver blocks, even if the benefits much exceed the drawbacks.

One of the most well-liked flexible pavement surfacing alternatives is interlock paving. Concrete, recycled plastic, clay, and other materials can be used to make interlock paver blocks, however, clay and concrete are the two most frequently used ones. Interlock pavers are used for exterior applications. They come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colours, patterns, and textures.

Many people are not particularly curious about pavements. It could appear to some people to be just a typical pathway, while to others it might be an architectural marvel. Although there are many pavement styles available, interlocking pavers are among the most effective.

It has been claimed that interlocking pavers date back 2000 years to the Ancient Romans. The Romans made an effort to construct roadways using uncomplicated materials. However, this simple way of building roads has managed to endure for thousands of years, up until the present. It is believed to be made of superior materials enabling it to stand up to almost any type of natural environment.

The most common materials for interlocking pavers are cement and concrete, and they frequently mimic the appearance of cobblestone paths.

Because of its unique ability to interlock, pavers can be set up without adhesive. The benefit of interlocking pavers is that they are a simple paving material that the homeowner or contractor can instal themselves.

Sand is used in binding interlocking pavers together so they may cover any patio, deck, driveway, or walkway. Interlocking pavers are a different option that may be utilised for almost any purpose that requires bricks or concrete.

Interlocking pavers come in a variety of hues and patterns. They are connected to one another to create a variety of geometric patterns because they are modular.

Interlocking Paver Blocks Designs

Interlocking paver block come in a variety of shapes, colours and patterns. The paver blocks can be arranged in such a way that the desired designs can be formed using the pavers.

The interlocking paver block and interlocking paver block designs are square paver block design, zigzag paver block designs, 3d paver block design, i shape paver block design, t series, dumbel, hexagon, etc. These can be mixed and matched to form elegant and beautiful shapes for patios, walkways, lawns, etc.

For example, different colours of dumbel series or t-series can be used for a pathway design to create a desired pattern, rather than making the pathway look plain with a single coloured paver block.

Advantages of Interlock paver blocks

Now that you know about interlocking paver blocks and their designs, let us look into the advantages of interlock paver block and why one must choose them.

1. Low Maintenance

Compared to plain concrete or asphalt pavement, interlock pavers require less maintenance. The top surface of the pavers does not require polishing, and it will not require future painting. Simple soap and water may be used to wash your driveway or patio on a regular basis to keep it looking clean and new for many years.

2. Strong and long-Lasting

Block paving has a long estimated lifespan of at least 20 years due to its high durability. When they are properly interlocked with one another, cracking is prevented. It is a fantastic material for long-lasting use in both commercial and residential spaces. Interlock pavers require little maintenance and can support any vehicle load and foot traffic. They are utilised for all traffic, including light, moderate, and heavy traffic. It can take in a lot of pressure and is hence appropriate for usage at docks and airports.

3. Highly Flexible

Interlock pavers are a fantastic component that comes in a wide range of shapes, colours, and textures, including i shape paver block design, Rectangular, square paver block design, Hexa, Cosmic, Trihex, zig zag paver block design, and Cobble.

Due to the wide variety of shapes available, pavers have the unusual capacity to interlock with one another. Interlock paving is suitable for both household and commercial uses such as patios, driveways, sidewalks, pool decks, parking lots, etc. due to the broad range of designs, colours, and thickness of pavers.

4. Environmentally friendly

Paver blocks are less harmful to the environment than solid, plain surfaces. Water and chemical runoff from solid surfaces can contaminate natural water sources. In order to improve the drainage on your patio or driveway, interlock paving will help stop rainfall from accumulating or flooding, by letting the rainwater seeps into the ground.

4. Safer

For use as pavement outside, pavers are a highly safe choice. It is highly safe to drive a car on pavers that have oil on their top surface from vehicles driving over them. Additionally, walking over them is not a concern even when the top surface of the interlocking paver block is wet or during the rainy season. Pavers that interlock are skid and slip resistant.

5. Resistance to weather

Any climate can benefit from using pavers (winter, summer and monsoon). Concrete pavers are the perfect material for colder locations where snow is frequent. Because paver brick is resistant to most chemicals, oils, and frost, they are a common choice in heavy industrial locations. Snow melting systems, which stop the accumulation of snow and ice on walkways, patios, and roads, can also be installed beneath pavers in colder climates. A system for melting snow might lessen slip risks and accidents. It can lessen the cost of clearing snow and lessen the harm caused by freeze-thaw cycles.

6. Quick Installation

Interlock pavers can be installed quickly and easily in 3 to 4 days without the need for any complicated tools or machinery. Following installation, interlock paving can be instantly used for walking and is open to traffic. The paver installation does not require mortar.

7. Saving Money

The cost of interlocking paver blocks has decreased due to mass production, making them widely accessible. It requires less care than conventional paving materials. Compared to clay pavers or real stone blocks, concrete block paving is more affordable. Your driveway and patio are long-term investments if you choose paver blocks.

8. Easy to Fix

The most important benefit of interlocking paver blocks is their ease of replacement. Even if one block breaks or is tainted by oil, diesel, or gasoline spills when compared to asphalt or concrete pavement, it is simple to repair and replace, no large machinery is needed to do it and no specialised labour is needed.

Disadvantages of Interlock Pavers

1. Moss and Weed Growth

Because interlocking is a distinctive feature of block paving, weed and moss may develop between the spaces between the blocks and quickly spread to the entire area if they are not correctly linked. Airborne seeds land in the sand during paver block construction and eventually develop between the paver stones.

Sand is washed out of block paving due to regular washing and this leaves spaces between the pavers where weeds and moss can develop. If block paving is not cleaned for an extended length of time, circular spots appear on the top surface of the paver as the stain is there for an extended period of time, and these places invite lichen (a simple moss) to grow.

The solution to this is the proper interlocking of the pavers without leaving many gaps between the pavers. Also, make sure the patio or sidewalk has a steep enough slope to allow rainwater to drain.

A chilly, damp atmosphere is what weeds want to live in, thus good drainage will assist prevent weed development.

By brushing your paving stones, you can stop new weeds from entirely establishing themselves between your pavers and stop seedlings from settling.

Large weeds between the joints should be pulled out. It is advisable to carry out this procedure manually because larger weeds are more challenging to get rid of with a pressure washer.

To get rid of the existing materials from the joints, use a pressure washer. The bedding layer that the paving stones are resting on should not be disturbed.

Make sure all rooting zones have been eliminated by using an organic solvent. Chemical solutions can be dangerous for children or animals and are very bad for the environment. Solutions without chemicals include boiling water or white vinegar. Both of these remedies can be applied directly to the afflicted regions to kill any weeds that are already there and stop the growth of new ones.
